Featured Presentation

The Top 5 Trends That Every DBA Should Know

Speaker: Kevin Kline, Principal Program Manager SentryOne

Summary: The world of Information Technology was stable for many decades with significant new trends coming slowly enough that we could all still do our job while keeping up with the new. But since the arrival of the 21st century, new paradigms and technologies are crashing on us like hurricanes. How is a DBA to keep up? And which ones should we focus on? We’ll give you an overview of the most important new trends that will amplify your productivity and enlarge your career opportunities. We’ll discuss DevOps, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (ML/AI), Big Data, and finally Containers/Docker/Kubernetes. We’ll tell you how to learn more and where to find the most useful resources for learning and implementing each of these new technologies. Finally, since strong productivity is based as much on what you ignore as what you embrace, we’ll discuss a few technological trends that are not yet fully baked or simply not worth your time. 1. DevOps, 2. Cloud, 3. AI/ML, 4. Big Data, 5. Containers/Docker/Kubernetes
