Iowa SQL Server User Group

Welcome to the Iowa SQL Server User Group (IASSUG)!

IASSUG is a Chapter/Local Group located in Des Moines, IA, in partnership with the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS).  We hold monthly group meetings usually on the third Thursday of the calendar month.

Since 2014, we are proud to have helped I-380 PASS and QCPASS (Quad Cities) with annual event planning and on-site staff duties at SQLSaturday Iowa City.

Want to join our local group?  Please check out our Meetup.com group Des Moines SQL Users Group.  Meeting events will be posted on that site as well as here, with any changes or added details updated at the Meetup group.

Learn tips and tricks from the professionals.  No sales pitch, just a bunch of Data Huggers getting together to learn something new!

Featured Presentation

Optimizing Microsoft Access with SQL Server

Speaker: Juan Soto, Senior Access Developer IT Impact Inc.

Summary: SQL Server DBA’s are often asked to take over a Microsoft Access application that has become mission-critical, the conversation usually goes like “You’re a DBA and Access is a database, so take over this system and upgrade it to SQL Server...”, but simply moving the data over may not guarantee better performance and can even make matters worse. The reality is Access can be much faster with SQL Server, allowing many more users, improving stability and safeguarding your data over a regular Access database. In this session, Juan Soto, the only Access MVP in Illinois, will discuss how to avoid pitfalls with performance, the proper method to designing tables for Access and how to leverage stored procedures and views with pass-through queries.

About Juan: I'm the President of IT Impact, a Microsoft Access MVP and a frequent author on the official Microsoft Access blog as well as the first Access developer to be profiled on their site. I'm also a frequent speaker at Access User Groups throughout the USA, covering subjects such as SQL Server with Access as well as providing tools and resources for Access developers on the web. My expertise is optimizing Access with SQL Server and helping SQL Server DBAs understand how to design tables for Access.
