Session #2:

Developing Your Personal Brand

Have you ever thought about how you brand and market yourself? What is the brand people assign to you based on their interactions with you, feedback from others, and what’s available online? What is the perception of your brand that potential employers will have from doing simple Google searches to learn more about you? Now, more than ever, it’s important to evaluate what your perceived brand might be, and spending time thinking about what you want your brand to be. You need to determine how you’ll achieve that brand, how you can effectively communicate your brand, and what other actions you can take to influence your brand. We’ll hit on all these points, along with qualities that may be desirable to have as part of your ‘Professional Brand,’ during this session.

SQL 2012 High Availability: Mission Critical Confidence – (AlwaysOn) and Availability Groups

AlwaysOn is SQL Server 2012’s High Availability solution. It provides a new standard for mission critical databases and end-to-end business intelligence at a lower total cost of ownership. It provides the required 9S of availability without the total cost and complexity.

In this session, we’ll specifically explore high availability databases – Availability Groups. AG is a new feature that enhances and combines database mirroring and log shipping. We’ll demonstrate the setup and failover of multiple databases simultaneously.

Mark Skiles is a (BI) Solutions Architect with GNet Group based in Minneapolis, MN. He and his wife live in Carlisle, IA. He is an international consultant and has worked for EDS in Taiwan and traveled extensively in China and Southeast Asia. He has over 23 years of technology experience and has worked with SQL server since 1995. His areas of interest are designing and integrating large scale databases and continual improvement in the presentation of data – ways to turn data into information and “data to decisions”.

Session #2:

DBCC Commands: The Quick and the Dangerous
There are many DBCC statements at the disposal of database administrators and developers. Some are used for the greater good; others can wreak havoc in your system. The majority of these commands are informational, but if you’re not careful, you can introduce chaos or, worse, lose data you may never find again.

In this session, we will explore DBCC commands that are useful for the DBA and developer and cover when to use them and how. Expect demonstrations that provide a practical application of these commands – both documented and undocumented – that database pros can quickly and easily use.
